Rosa Schapire Art Prize 2023

The Rosa Schapire Art Prize is dedicated to the intrepid spirit of its namesake Rosa Schapire (1874-1954), who is regarded as a great pioneer of contemporary modernism and who championed Expressionism in particular with courage and passion. The prize is awarded by annually changing jurors, who are appointed by the respective directorate of the Kunsthalle.

By awarding the Rosa Schapire Art Prize, the Freunde der Kunsthalle advocates a luminous and unfettered interpretation of art. The prize shall honour an artist’s personality, whose piece of art qualifies as a valuable and vivid contribution to the collection of the traditional yet aspirational museum Hamburger Kunsthalle.

Previous laureates* were Simone Fattal in 2022, as well as, before a Corona-related hiatus, Kathleen Ryan in 2020, Tatiana Trouvé in 2019, Natalia LL in 2018, Ana Jotta in 2017, and Dan Perjovschi in 2016.
