We present here our offerings for schoolchildren in association with special exhibitions. Our school programme offers skills- and activity-oriented approaches to art for all grades and educational levels. Through discussion and learning based on exemplary artworks, pupils are encouraged to think about and interact with art. Teachers will discover links to school curricula and will be able to incorporate new ideas into their lessons.

All our offerings are dialogue-based and interactive. For formats 120 minutes or longer, a studio component is possible.

On request, we can also adapt formats to different educational levels.

IMPRESSIONISM: CURTAIN UP!  4th – 13th grade

Come over here! Look at me and be amazed! What do you recognise in my face? Take a close look! Can you assume my posture?

In “Curtain Up!” we look at casts of characters whose stage directors, the Impressionists, were masterful composers. But how did they go about creating these figures? We will investigate their techniques and philosophise and perform based on concepts such as the key moment and staging. Paintings and sculptures provide the impetus to get moving and recreate with our own bodies the motifs of the Impressionists.

60 / 90 min collection or 120 min collection + studio

IMPRESSIONISM. DREAM-LIKE CITYSCAPES  5th – 13th grade

Let’s take a closer look: Are those fluffy white clouds or a murky vapour building up in the background of Alfred Sisley’s The Seine at Billancourt? How do landscape and cityscape actually differ from one another? We follow the Impressionists in their observations and reflect on processes of change in nature and the city. What impresses us as we move through the world? What do we do in our free time?

In this format we get to know the chief characteristics of Impressionism. Works of art provide food for thought for how we live and how we want to live.

60 / 90 min collection or 120 min collection + studio

ISA MONA LISA  1st – 4th grade

How do you imagine a person? We often only see what we already know. But is that the whole truth? When you hear the word »woman«, what image comes to mind and what expression do the artists in the exhibition find to broaden our view?

Pupils are introduced to contemporary art by looking and asking questions. The content is approached, discussed and reflected upon in dialogue and using interactive methods.

The programme is dialogue-based and interactive. We work with a small selection of works as examples. Creative techniques are used in front of the originals.

From a length of 120 minutes, this format can also be booked to include digital practice in the studio.

Feelings in Color – Discover the World of MARIA LASSNIG AND EDVARD MUNCH 1st – 4th grade

The Hamburger Kunsthalle invites primary school children to a special exhibition: For the first time, works by Maria Lassnig and Edvard Munch are being shown together – and you can discover them!

Their paintings are about big feelings: anger, joy, sadness or fear. With bold colors and wild brushstrokes, the two artists show what moved them. They also provide very personal insights into their lives.
Together, we will look at their exciting works of art, talk about feelings – and find out how art can help us express what is inside us.

MARIA LASSNIG AND EDVARD MUNCH. Flow of Paint = Flow of Life 5th – 13th grade

Maria Lassnig and Edvard Munch did not know each other and yet they have a lot in common! They dealt with their emotional world and explored their inner selves, which they transferred expressively onto canvas. They still impress people today with their lively brushwork and unusual painting experiments. What is the connection between colors and emotions? And what might Maria Lassnig's term »body-consciousness paintings« have to do with it? What role does self-questioning play in the artistic process?

Students explore all these questions on a dialogical and interactive tour. They are introduced to the lives and artistic processes of Lassnig and Munch through comparative viewing and creative experiments.

60 / 90 min special exhibition or 120 / 180 min special exhibition + studio
