On the occasion of the award ceremony for the Edwin Scharff Prize to Frank Gerritz, the Kunsthalle will be showing a selection of the Hamburg-based artist's work. From the beginning, Gerritz has held a completely independent position within the German art scene, garnering an international recognition very early in his career. First active as a sculptor, the artist has come to favor drawings over the years, moving further and further away from three-dimensional media. Nevertheless, with their materiality and precisely-defined, worked surfaces, both his graphite works on MDF and paint-stick works on aluminum, as well as his site-specific, large-format wall drawings continue to show traces of the sculptural aspects of his work.

Frank Gerritz's works can be found in numerous national and international collections and museums around the world, including the Fogg Museum, Yale University Art Museum, and National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and were recently featured in a comprehensive retrospective in Neues Museum Weserburg in Bremen, Germany and in the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag.
