ARS VIVA 2014/15

Kulturkreis Prize for Fine Arts

19 October 2014 to 15 February 2015

The Kulturkreis ars viva Prize for Fine Arts, awarded by the Association of Arts and Culture of the German Economy at the Federation of German Industries, has been presented since 1953 to young artists living in Germany. As a rule three to four artists are selected every year. Previous winners include Marina Abramović and Ulay, Katharina Sieverding, Rosemarie Trockel, Candida Höfer, Thomas Struth, Anna Oppermann, Jeanne Faust, Thomas Demand and Omer Fast. Aside from the award and prizemoney, the ars viva prize also involves an exhibition series, the publication of a catalogue and the issuing of an edition.

The series planned for 2014/2015 opens at the Hamburger Kunsthalle. Afterwards the exhibition will be shown at the Bonner Kunstverein and a third stage will take place in a European institution outsideGermany. All three venues will show a selection of already existing works by this year's prize-winners together with pieces specially created for the exhibition. Past selections of young artists, who may not be older than thirty-five, took place under headings such as Time, Identity, Staging, Landscape, Language, Systems and Laboratory, which all took up current tendencies in contemporary art and focused in on social phenomena.

The new prize-winners will be chosen in March 2014 by an international specialist jury.
