Art in Hamburg

The Hamburger Kunsthalle has opened a new exhibition space for presentations on Art in Hamburg drawn from various departments of the museum collection. The idea of having a permanent space for exhibiting works of Hamburg artists stands in the tradition of Alfred Lichtwark, the first director of the Kunsthalle. In a regular cycle of about one year, artworks from different periods are shown in the new gallery Art in Hamburg – from the Old Masters to Contemporary Art. The first display is reserved for the Department of Modern Art  (curator: Dr. Karin Schick), featuring works from the Hamburg Artists’ Club of 1897. The presentation includes works from Julius von Ehren, Ernst Eitner, Arthur Illies and other artists.
