Shirin Neshat Since her performance at the last biennial in Venice
Shirin Neshat is regarded as one of the most interesting female artists
of the young art scene. We have at short notice been able to bring
an extensive presentation of her works to Germany. As an adolescent
the Iranian Shirin Nishat went to California to study art. When she
visited her home again in 1990 she discovered a country which had
changed entirely. With a critical and an emotional impact she reports
on the cultural, social and political situation of the Iran of the
Ayatollahs as well as on the social and cultural norms of western
society. Shirin Neshat was awarded a Golden Lion in Venice. For the
first time the exhibition, previously shown in the Kunsthalle in Vienna
and in the Serpentine Gallery in London, shows a retrospective of
the work of the artist, who was born in 1957. The focus is on three
big video-installations of which one - the video-installation Fervor
was acquired for the Galerie der Gegenwart by the F. and W. Foundation
for Contemporary Art.
