Edvard Munch - The Sick Child
The graphic works
March 1 - June 2, 2002

Prompted by the death of his sister at a very young age, the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch was preoccupied with the subject of the sick child throughout his life. The
exhibition in the Hamburg Kunsthalle focuses on this particular motif as shown in a number of Munch's graphic works, each of which is printed in different colours and displays a fascinating wealth of expression.

At the centre of the exhibition is Munch's pastel "The Sick Child" from 1896, which Erika and Klaus Hegewisch recently gifted to the Kunsthalle. A small volume in series
"Der Kleine Reihe der Hamburger Kunsthalle" will be published to accompany the exhibition, which features 25 works by the artist. The works will be presented in the Hegewisch Kabinett.
